The workshop

Aims and Scope

In the past decade, the kernel methods domain has expanded from a single algorithm for classification to a full-grown toolbox of techniques that are currently being applied in a variety of domains. This workshop aims at highlighting the current trends and topics of interest, and at putting these in a synthesized historical perspective, with attention for both theoretical and application challenges. Specific topics range from learning theory, over algorithmic/optimization issues in new kernel methods to practical successes and bottlenecks.

The workshop is sponsored by the WOG machine learning for data mining and its applications, and by the PASCAL-network, such that attendance will be free except for the catering expenses.

Format

The workshop will consist of two days of invited talks by internationally renown researchers. Additionally, an interactive student poster session will be organized.

The most convenient airport to reach the workshop site and the Atlas Hotel (see below) is Brussels International Airport (BRU). There are frequent direct trains from the airport to 'Brussel Centraal/Bruxelles Central', which is within walking distance of the hotel and workshop site. Another slightly less convenient airport (to which Ryanair, among others, is flying) is Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL). From this airport there are bus connections to the 'Brussel Zuid/Bruxelles Midi' train station, where you can proceed by metro, train, or taxi.

Accommodation

DEADLINE PASSED

For your convenience, we have reserved a block of rooms in the Atlas Hotel in the center of Brussels, within easy reach of the workshop site (by metro, taxi, or on foot). The rooms are reserved from Saturday 25 November until Wednesday 29 November (4 nights).
